In February, BLM Construction had the pleasure of welcoming a group of homeschool students to our office for a hands-on field trip experience. Around 15 students ranging from preschool through 9th grade joined us for the day, bringing plenty of curiosity and excitement with them.
The goal of the visit was to give students a glimpse into the construction industry and show them how many different materials and skills come together to create the spaces we live and work in every day.
The tour began in our design studio, where the students were able to explore a variety of real construction materials. They got to touch and examine items like shingles, sinks, windows, tile samples, and railing materials. For many of them, it was their first time seeing these materials up close and learning how they are used in building and remodeling projects.
After exploring the design studio, the group continued through the rest of the office where they got a behind-the-scenes look at how our team works together to plan and manage construction projects.
The final stop of the tour took place in our shop, where we talked about the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE) on construction job sites. Safety is one of the most important parts of our industry, and it was a great opportunity to show the students how professionals stay protected while working.
To make the lesson even more fun, we turned it into a challenge. The students raced to see who could put on their safety gear the fastest, and the competition quickly became one of the highlights of the day.
It was a great experience for everyone involved, and the students had an awesome time learning about the construction world.
At BLM Construction, we enjoy opportunities to connect with our community and help educate the next generation about careers in the trades.
If your school, homeschool group, or organization would be interested in scheduling a field trip with us, we would love to host you.
