Basement Remodel

So, the cement floors and cinder block walls aren’t cutting it, and you need the space. Whether your family is growing, the in-laws are moving in, you want to entertain more, or you simply want a multifunctional space, finishing your basement is the way to go.

Finishing a basement involves minimizing clutter, testing moisture levels, getting permits, installing insulation, framing, putting up drywall, laying down subflooring and flooring, plumbing, electric work, and painting. Redoing a basement is completely doable, but what will you do with the space? We have a few ideas to get you started:

Give your in-laws a space of their own, or make room for your growing family.

If your in-laws are moving in, it may be time to consider redoing the basement to fit a bedroom, a bathroom, living space, and a kitchenette. Having privacy and boundaries when in-laws move in is incredibly important, and giving them a space of their own, whether it’s a basement or home addition, makes a huge difference.

If you need more room for the family, add a bedroom or two, a playroom, a space for homework, and a family living area. Make the space family friendly by adding a game room, home theatre, and a reading nook.

Design a dreamy space to entertain.

Not enough space to entertain upstairs? Turn your basement into an entertainment room with a full bar, media room, gaming space, den, and a wine cellar. Brighten the basement up with recessed lights, add storage areas with built-ins, and keep it modern with lighter neutrals, wood accents, and luxury vinyl flooring.

Make your hobbies the centerpiece.

If you don’t currently have a space to invest in your hobbies, whether it be art, collecting, reading, scrapbooking, craft brewing, woodworking, or winemaking, you can customize a basement to design the perfect place to practice your hobby.

A basement can be turned into a library, craft room, wine cellar, woodshop, or other type of room to practice your hobbies. Better yet, make it multifunctional to better suit your lifestyle. Add an office, home gym, and a hobby space to make the most of the room you have.
