The kitchen is the central room of every home. It’s the room where the day begins with cooking breakfast and brewing a pot of coffee, and it’s where the day ends with preparing dinner and doing the day’s worth of dishes.
A kitchen needs to be functional and make everyday tasks more efficient, but it’s also important for it to fit your style. When you have a kitchen you’re happy with and enjoy being in, you want to do more with it, like hosting parties and dinners or trying new recipes.
If you’re looking to give your kitchen a much-needed makeover, here are some ideas to consider:
Go Big on Color
To give your kitchen a whole new look, add color. You can do this by refinishing or replacing old cabinets, painting the walls, getting a new sleek backsplash, or choosing a colorful area rug. Whether you choose to go dark or light, make sure your color scheme is cohesive. For subtle pops of color, hang a few pieces of wall decor, incorporate plants, hang some colored or patterned curtains, paint a single wall, or try out some new lighting fixtures.
Create a Built-In Coffee or Tea Bar
If you’re a coffee or tea lover, a hot beverage bar is a must, whether you want it built-in, placed on a reimagined piece of furniture, or set up on your counter space. If you get a built-in, you’ll have some extra designated storage for spare bags of coffee, tea, travel mugs, and sugar packets. Then, add a few plants around the space and a sign with your favorite coffee or tea quote.
Hang Open Shelves
Open shelves are not for everyone, but when done and organized right, they can transform a kitchen and make it appear more open. Keep matching plate, bowl, and glass sets on the open shelves to keep it clean. If you like, add a few draping plants, a row of cookbooks, or baskets filled with snacks.
Match Your Hardware and Fixtures
Matching faucets and cabinet knobs can help tie in the kitchen’s color scheme, whether you choose a black matte finish or shiny copper. When you have a color chosen, incorporate it in other decorative ways sparingly throughout the kitchen to bring it all together.
Replace Your Countertops
Everyone has a countertop preference, whether you like the clean and sleek look of white quartz countertops, the contrast of a dark countertop against white cabinets, the unique and modern look of concrete counters, or the earthy tones of wood countertops. Changing your countertops can transform the appearance of your kitchen, and when picking the right one, can be more functional.
